GOLD DEPOSITS

Gold deposits are associated with a wide-range of alteration minerals. Depending on the deposit type (i.e. epithermal, porphyry-style, disseminated, BIF-hosted, skarns, lode gold, etc.), the alteration assemblages (although specific to each type) greatly vary. The photomicrographs below show selected gold and alteration types. Width of gold photos: 0.9 mm. Width of alteration photos: 4 mm.
